srikantagrawal: Is Airline obligated to provide accommodation during the long stopover (for more than 7 hours)?
I have an International flight, which stops at Heathrow airport for more than 7 hours. American Airlines refused to provide any accommodation or do anything about it! Earlier I had used Malaysian airlines for my international travel and they had provided me accommodation in Malaysia because the stopover was more than 7 hours! I was wondering why American Airlines doesn’t have such policy or can anything be done about it?

They are not required – but they only do it as a courtesy.
Many have slept in the airport terminals.
To be direct, an airline is not obligated to do anything but ensure that their travelling passengers are safe while onboard the aircraft.Answer by ♥♀MafiaGirl♀♥
Airlines cannot do what every customer wants so they might do it for you if you ask politely and might turn you down too….Answer by averagebear
There is a big difference between American Airlines in London, and Malaysian Airlines in Malaysia. The accomodations you got from Malaysian Airlines did not cost the airline anything. Same with Singapore Airlines allowing people to stay in Singapore for free. They even throw in a free city tour. I think Icelandair also does something similar for connections through Iceland. There’s just no such thing for AA in a foreign country. If anything, AA has to pay a lot to fly connections through LHR so of course they won’t put you up for free.
However, I have heard of this nice airport hotel in LHR that charges travelers in blocks of several hours or 1/2 days so you can shower and rest.Answer by jb fortune
it base on your ticket fare as well .. if u pay more then definitely they will provide an accommodation for you during transit .. if u are traveling on a discounted or special fare ticket even though u are transiting more than 24hours you are not entitled for any accommodation or even meal while waiting at the airport …Answer by DougF
Different airlines arrange different travel packages. If all you have purchased is the flights, then there is no obligation to do anything else.
Your flights with Malaysian airlines must have included the accommodation as part of the package. It would have been factored into the fare somehow or other, even if it was made to look ‘free’ to you.
It is possible that by offering an accommodation option, Malaysian gains enough business to cover the costs, and finds it worthwhile subsidizing the cost or covering it completely. American Airlines may not need to do that.
