: Windows vista “windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computers hardware”?
I had to replace the hard drive on my laptop. It is a sata. I am now trying to put windows vista home basic edition 32 bit back on but didnt have the disc. I followed an online guide and made my own disc(i have the key) via making ubuntu and vista OS ISO’s.
The problem is, when vista is almost installed it says “windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computers hardware”
As I said, I just replaced the hard drive. All I did was plug it in, was something else necessary? Also, i ran across people saying in bios it has to be set to sata not ahcp, but i cant find either mentioned..

It seems the disk you have made for your computer is missing some files that is why it is unable to configure.
I had the same problem. But i just asked a friend if i could borrow there disk and it works like a charm.
Hope this helped and i hope you can get it fixed!
