Nate: Why is college football so much more popular than minor league baseball?
People don’t watch minor league baseball very much becasue the talent level is much lower than in MLB. But millions watch college football every week, despite the fact that the talent level is much lower than in the NFL.
I understand that some people like to support their college. But a lot of poeple who didn’t even go to college still watch college football.
Now, I enjoy a college football game or a minor league baseball game every now and then. But I’m not sure why college football has so many die hard fans when there is a clearly superior product available in the pros. Can someone please explain?

The short answer is television. College football is a lot more marketable than AAA baseball so therefore there is a lot more money to be made. Although Minor League baseball teams are affiliated with Major League ballclubs…televising their games would be a direct competitor to their major league counterparts since baseball is a game played on a daily basis. You seldom have that problem with College Football vs. NFL since College games are played on Saturdays while NFL games are played on Sundays.
Football is by far the most popular sport in America. Those who can’t play football play all other sports. That being said I could careless about college football.Answer by yyy123
A good question, but you’re really comparing apples and oranges. Football is football. People LOVE football. HIGH SCHOOL football is more popular than minor league baseball. And you can’t even drink at a high school game!Answer by The Gamecock Fan (iamrulz26)
Because unlike Minor League Baseball, I and many other people find college football to be more entertaining than it’s professional counterpart. I love the NFL, but the college game is just more fun and interesting to me. I don’t care about the overall talent level, the game is faster paced, has more teams, less commercial breaks, more explosive offenses, a far better atmosphere and incredibly loyal fans. And there’s no dealing with players b*tching because they’re making $ 20,000,000 a year vs. $ 25,000,000.Answer by GhostFlower
honestly, i cant stand NFL football
to me, its very predictable, and very cut and dry
college football, you never know what to expect, making the games more intense
but hey, im just a girl, what do i know

Answer by BTelshFootball is the new American sport. They even show HIGH SCHOOL games on ESPN because people will watch it being such big football fans. A shame too, because I agree. It’s stupid with the current system they have where a 13-0 team doesn’t make the BCS game but an 11-2 team can. At least baseball isn’t rigged to garner more viewers.Answer by Roy
Because the college players get paid more.Answer by Sam
because baseball is boring. it goes on too long and it seems like theres a new ‘good’ player every week.Answer by Matty
Good question.
I think it comes down to a plethora of things: The hype college football receives in comparision to MILB, the betting involved, the tradition, the alumni population
If I had to pick one, though, it would be the amount of marketing college football generates. For example, you probably couldn’t go 30 minutes of watching ESPN without there being some sort of college gameday commercial being shown. Minor League Baseball, on the other hand, doesn’t do an adequate job of promoting themselves.
People are like sheep; we’re easily manipulated and fooled by media propaganda. If we’re constantly being exposed to something, our attentions are naturally drawn to it. For example, about 5 years ago the UFC was an obscure fighting sport that only attracted a selective audience. However, Dana White, the president of UFC, has done a great job of promoting the sport to the point where UFC has overthrown boxing, in terms of popularity and TV ratings.
In regards to your last paragraph, I think that some fans are more fond of college football opposed to the NFL because they might have attended or have family members attending a certain university. For example, my Aunt, whose not sport fan, supports Rutgers football because that’s her Alma Mater. She, however, does not support any NFL teams.
Sorry for the long answer.
Answer by Rexual HealingA big part of it is that college football teams already have a built in fanbase with their study and alumni body, and there’s many more students and alumni of an average big time football school than there are residents of a small town.
Another part is its history of exposure and the amount of money invested in it. Minor league baseball teams and independent organizations don’t have anywhere near enough money to have national TV deals like college football teams and conferences do.
Answer by Mitch the Bit Ch-eese!everyone creams over football in general. so what’s more bound to get attention? the college version of football or baseball? um yeah.Answer by livin la vida irie
yeah, I’d just like to point out one thing. Not all the talent is lower in the minors. Look at the cubs, they got rid of the majority of their team and brought up a lot of players from the Iowa Cubs and finally, at the end of the season, they’re starting to play some ball.
Now, in my personal opinion college football is like a pre-screen to see what is to come in the NFL. Plus, the atmosphere of the games is just incredible. Where I come from (Iowa) we don’t have any pro teams so our Hawkeye football team is what we love and live for. It’s everyone in our state coming together as one, except for those silly Iowa State fans, and letting people know we have more than just corn. Football has always been more of a loud and proud sport than baseball. I mean, I love my baseball and I’m die hard, but there’s something about the fall that makes the shy, introverted girl turn into a loud and proud Hawk. I love going to games but I never get as rowdy at a baseball game as I do at Kinnick Stadium. I think that it’s just more of a slow paced game that is more for watching and not so much for the going nuts. And it’s so much fun seeing people I know from my area play in black and gold.
Answer by c dubbThe same reason the nfl is more popular than MLB. Baseball is a slow and boring sport and there are about 100 too many games. Football, its a short season, less games mean every game matters. So, since the pro version is much more popular, of course the college version would be more popular than its equivalent in minor leagues. While a baseball game is still fun to actually be at, football is something that is enjoyable to watch on TV, while baseball isnt. Football is by far America’s pastime and people who say otherwise should stop living in the 30’s. And as for why college has so many die hard fans, it has a lot to do with geography. For example, look at USC, Oklahoma, and Alabama. There is no pro team in the area or even state for some of them. People grow up in the state and support their team.Answer by Pert Fgfgh
The short answer is television
The long answer is boring.Answer by Kev GO TWINS!™
I think it just comes down to that college and professional are 2 different things. Yes minor leauge baseball isn’t big league, but it is professional baseball. College attracts a lot of people, who go to school there, live in the area, or just like the fact that upsets happen and anyone can beat anybody. College baseball isn’t that popular and I don’t have the answer to that one, but football and basketball are 2 of the best sports in college.
