Ray Charles: Can i start at a higher level gymnastics if i have experience?
I’m 14 and i want to start gymnastics but i don’t want to be at level 1 and 2 with 5 year olds. I can do basic tumbling (front and back handspring and tuck back walkover..) and i can do a cartwheel and handstands and stuff on beam and i know a few things on bars. Would they start me at level 1 or would i start higher?

i think it would depend on the gym or center you’re learning at.
talk to them about it and they’ll probably test you to see what level they should put you in.
and level one and two isn’t full of 5 year olds…theres a lot of girls just starting out.
It does somewhat depend on what gym. But they will test you. You would probably be a four maybe? because your bars doesn’t sound very strong. Also, if you enjoy tumbling then some gyms offer a teen tumbling class where many girls your age have your capabilities but do not want to be with three year old. You would not however be in level one or two. I am positive. Try a YMCA.Answer by Allie
depends. they will probably only let you be in Recreational classes and not competitive/team. also, you didn’t say much. there’s four events: bars, floor, beam and vault.
for level 4 you need:
-roundoff flipflop
-handstand to flat back on top of high mats
-glide swings, pullover, front hipcircle, millcircle, backhipcircle to underswing dismount.
-side handstand with a twist
for level 5 you need:
-handstand, cartwheel, half pirouette, side-handstand with a twist dismount on the high beam and it has to be consistent with good form.
-a front handspring over the vault/horse.
-dive-roll, fronthandspring, good leaps, back extension roll, backwalkover, roundoff flip flop flip flop and some dance for floor.
-a kip, fronthipcircle, squat-on, longkip, backhipcircle, tap swing + dismount for bars.
level 6:
-full pirouette, backwalkover, handstand to side handstand to twist dismount on high beam + dance.
-handspring over vault.
-punch front, handspring to handspring, split leap to center leap, back extension roll, backwalkover, standing backhandspring, roundoff flipflop backtuck
-kip, free-hip circle, squat on, longkip, baby giant, tap swings, flyaway
you can ask for a evaluation class, but if you do have experience and you prove it to them, then you will most likely move up but you have to have good form and consistency in order to do so. also, even if you’re good at all the other events but one, you probably won’t be able to go to that level. also remember that its in the middle of competitive season, you probably will mostly likely not be able to go to team or train with team. you can ask them if they have classes with someone your age too.
