12345: What’s the difference between judaism and christianity?
I know the super basic things like Hanukkah and that they have bar-mitzvahs and stuff but could somebody go a little bit further? I’m Catholic, so I know what most christians believe but is it very similar to Judaism? Just wondering.

One of the core differences between being a Christian and a Jew is that Christians accept Jesus Christ as the Messiah, and Jews do not. Jews believe that the Messiah hasn’t come yet, but will one day. One of the reasons that some Christians think that Christianity is similar to Judaism is because the first 5 sections of the bible are also included in the Torah (Jewish Bible) and therefor, the things written in those sections are indeed a part of Judaism. Christians and Jews believe in the same God, but the their name for God is Adonai. There are so many other differences that I could go into, but to name all of them would mean writing a novel, lol. Answer by AlishaChristianity (Catholicism) was an offshoot of Judaism that occurred a couple thousand years ago. The first Christians were considered Jewish heretics. Christians took the Torah and put it at the beginning of their Bible (Genesis-Deuteronomy), and added a bunch of their own writings since they believe that Jesus was the fulfillment of Jewish prophecy.
