What’s the best place near Orlando to live?

kldded: Where would you live near Orlando? Advice?
My husband and I have a few options for relocating. One option is the Orlando area. We don’t want to live in the city of Orlando, we’d rather live outside within say 30-40 minutes of the city. I’ll be going to school in Orlando so don’t want to commute TOO far. I’d prefer to be closer to one of the coasts because we love the beach and want to be able to get there on weekends. I would love to live on the coast but think that’s too far to commute to Orlando 5 days a week. We are young with no kids and are looking for a safe, affordable area that is convenient to Orlando and the coast. We also like to have options for dining out and shopping etc but don’t mind having to drive 10-15 minutes to get there. Safe is definitely important as I’ve heard terrible things about the crime in Orlando. Can anyone give me any advice??

Going to school where? UCF? a nice area to look into would be the Waterford lakes or Avalon area. From there it isent 2 far from Cocoa beach.

I definitely agree with the first answerer. There is no coast 30 minutes from downtown Orlando. You would go broke on tolls and gas if you commuted from the coast to Orlando daily. There are many great neighborhoods in the Southeast Orange County area that are very close (but not too close) to the UCF main campus including Waterford Lakes, Waterford Chase, Stoneybrook, Stone Lakes, Eastwood, Avalon Lakes and Avalon Park. These neighborhoods are all south of UCF and are very close to shopping and dining and out of the way of tourists and away from the worst crime areas of Orlando. On the north side of UCF is Oviedo, which is also a very nice area to consider.

It would be about an hour or so drive to Cocoa Beach from this area on the weekends. If you wanted to get to the Gulf Coast, it would be a bit more than two hours.

Viera and suntree are 45 minutes away from Disney and they have the safest and most prettiest communities and are 15-20 minutes from cocoa beach and 5 minutes from dining, movie theater and shopping with much to choose from
