andy: What year did lynching become a federal crime?
I am doing a report in school for killings during the civil rights movement and how little was done to stop them. I can’t find in which year lynching became a federal crime to take it out of state administration.

Actually, not until 1968 when lynching was specifically criminalized by federal legislation by the Civil Rights Act.
