Trevor: What would be a good thesis statement for gambling?
I have a controversial topic project and (the topic is Should gambling be abolished) I decided it SHOULD NOT be abolished. I have a few ideas for a thesis but what do you guys think? We have to present it and than we write an in class essay on it. Any ideas?

Gambling: The government profits with lotteries, directly and indirectly, from the very “vice” it supposedly is trying to suppress, threatening competitors with imprisonment. If we never took a gamble in life the world would be a very boring place.
I’m not going to write your thesis statement for you because I’m not sure of exactly which direction you want to take it. However, a few good ideas to consider for it are:
A. Without gambling, MANY Native American tribes would have absolutely no livelihood and their people would all starve to death. Gambling/casinos are their only source of income.
B. Even if organized gambling was abolished, many people would still gamble anyway. By having it legalized it helps pump money into the economy. It is a good thing. It brings tourists.
C. It’s fun! Many people can be responsible gamblers, and the government should not let a few rotten apples spoil it for the rest of us!
