What should I wear to my college ballet class?

Karen: What should I wear to my college ballet class?
I have not taken ballet since I was 8 years old, but I decided to sign up for a college class. It is an intro class. The highlight of the class is an end of semester recital.

I was planning to wear a t-shirt and sweatpants with sneakers since it is low key. Do I need to buy ballet slippers and other clothes?

your going to want leotard, tights, and ballet shoes…cause its a ballet class no matter what level you want to look appropriate : ) hope the class is fun

get ballet shoes, but you don’t have to wear a leotard. Instead, wear well fitting tops (no baggy t-shirts) and boxers or running shorts, try not to be too brightly colored, and things have to be fitted, or else the teacher can’t see you movements. If you get more serious, get a leotard and ballet tights and maybe but shorts. (those are really tight, short shorts that give a little more coverage then a leotard)

For any ballet class, the necessities are a leotard (usually black or pink), tights (usually pink or white), and ballet shoes (usually pink as well). So plan on having to buy those. If you were not given a list of items you will need, don’t buy them yet. However, on the first day to class, you need to wear clothes that fit tight against your body.

I don’t know if your class will actually hold a class, but if it does, your teacher must see your body clearly. Ballet concentrates on tiny details such as your toes being right below, right at, or right above your knees or whether your back is curved slightly or none at all. So wearing loose fitting clothes is a bad idea.

I suggest you wear a snug fitting t-shirt that shows the outline of your body (or a camisole) and shorts (not jean shorts). Also, wear socks in case you need to step out of your shoes. There are no shoes you can dance ballet in other than ballet slippers or pointe shoes. Also, make sure your hair is up and out of your face and your neck is showing.

Wear a black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, and your hair in a bun.

Over that wear athletic pants/shorts and a tight fitting shirt.

you definitley need a leotard (preferably black), pink or black tights, hair in a bun, and ya id get some ballet shoes…do NOT wear that, waayyy too low key for ballet

you really wont be able to dance in sneakers. I would also suggest a leotard and tights and if you don’t want to wear a ballet skirt then tighter pants or dance shorts. Even though its a beginner class you want to look professional and appropriate. =]
