walrus: What position do those in islam take on the disadvantaged?
I am looking at conversion to Islam and have some questions.
What do most muslims feel- or what does teh Koran say about people who are mentally disabled or just ‘slow’ in any sort- and does Allah expect them to convert? Will he punish them for not doing so?
Why does God create/ allow people with disabilities?

I think my imam told me that Allah does not test those who are mentally disabled and shouldn’t do anything they can’t. Allah will NOT expect them to convert because they are miskeen (innocent) and they have disabilities so they didn’t do anything wrong.
Yes, Allah (Swt) insha’allah taa’la excepets anyone who REVERTS to Islam. (REVERT, because we as Muslims believe everyone was born Muslim, then turned away at there own times.
Muslims believe that God has given His complete and perfect guidance for humankind in the form of the glorious Qur’an. Naturally, the Islamic worldview as well as philosophy of life are derived from the pages of the Qur’an itself. And Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) has practically demonstrated how Muslims can translate the principles of that guidance into every day life.
As for deriving ‘a philosophy’ of counseling and rehabilitation of the special needs people, we need to go first to the same basic sources of Islam, namely the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet.
In the terminology of Islam, we may not see any term corresponding to the modern expression, “people with special needs” (i.e. disabled persons who need special care and attention). But all the norms and guidelines necessary for the counseling and rehabilitation of those in need have been clearly outlined in the Qur’an and the Sunnah.
For instance, read the verses of the Qur’an that say what mean:
*{O mankind! We created you from a single pair of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise each other).}* (Al-Hujurat 49:3)
*{And cooperate with one another towards righteousness and piety and do not cooperate towards sinfulness and aggression.}* (Al-Ma’idah 5:2)
*{Whoever saved a life, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind.}* (Al-Ma’idah 5:2)
Also, Allah directly addressed the Prophet as *{a mercy for all}*. (Al-Anbiyaa’ 21:107)
In addition to the commandments in the Qur’an, we have the directives of the Prophet too. For instance, the Prophet is reported to have said:
“Whoever meets the needs of his brother, Allah will meet his needs.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).
He also said: “Show mercy to those on earth, and God will show mercy to you.” (At- Tirmithi and Abu Dawud)
Answer by shadowstrykeChildren, old people, mentality disabled people are not accounted for their actions.
Like eg: fasting is not obligatory on children, old, weak or sick people. You must know, Islam is to make things ‘easy’ for you. If one is on wheel chair, then the one can offer prayers on it and he will get the same rewards as healthy person. There is no compulsion in religion.
I think God is Most Merciful, I don’t think when He will create a handicapped person, He will judge the person for his disabilities, or the drawbacks die to it.
Answer by MoonlightSunshineALhamdullah, I have asked this question before and have gotten much feedback. From what I gather the mentally disabled if they have the capcity to learn about Islam should be taught about it but will not be punished if they are unable to do all other their Islamic duties. Also, mentally disabled will all go to heaven even if they do not identify with a religion. And when I say mentally disabled isn’t just slow, I’m talking about Autistic and Down syndrome.Answer by Ms. Iman
They get a pass. I think someone that’s mentally disabled may not even be able to accept or understand islam. They can’t be expected to believe something they cannot comprehend Allah swt is not like that.Answer by Jewel
“Allaah is the Creator of all things” [al-Ra’d 13:16]
His perfect wisdom decrees that He creates opposites, so He has created angels and devils, night and day, purity and impurity, good and ugly, and He has created good and evil. He created His slaves with differences in their bodies and minds, and in their strengths. He has made some rich and some poor, some healthy and some sickly, some wise and some foolish. By His wisdom, He tests them, and He tests some by means of others, to show who will be grateful and who will be ungrateful. Allaah says (interpretation of the meanings):
“Verily, We have created man from Nutfah (drops) of mixed semen (sexual discharge of man and woman), in order to try him, so We made him hearer and seer.
Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful” [al-Insaan 76:2]
“Who has created death and life that He may test you which of you is best in deed”
[al-Mulk 67:2]
When the sound believer sees disabled people, he recognizes the blessing that Allaah has bestowed upon him, so he gives thanks for His blessing, and He asks Him for good health. He knows that Allaah is Able to do all things.
People are incapable of comprehending Allaah’s wisdom. He cannot be questioned as to what He does , while they will be questioned. Glorified and exalted be He. Whatever you understand of His wisdom, believe in it, and whatever you cannot understand, say, “Allaah knows best and is most wise, and we know nothing except that which You have taught us, and He is the All-Knowing, Most Wise.”
One of the basic principles of Islam is to believe in the wisdom of the Lord in what He creates and commands, and in what He wills and decrees, in the sense that He does not create anything in vain and He does not decree anything in which there is not some benefit for His slaves. So everything that exists is His will and decree.
people who are not accountable for their misdeeds:
1. mentally disabled/ insane
2.minor(child)
3.sleeping person(if he miss prayer etc.)
They are not expected to convert. Allah spares them.
They will not be punished.
Answer by Wazeer is coolThe disadvantaged/mentally disabled will not be punished at all by Allah as they were never capable of being able to determine truth from falsehood. As such, like innocent children, they too are innocent and will also be admitted into Jannat (paradise) by Allah. Allah would never do injustice upon any creature of His, so Allah will not be expecting them to convert etc and they will be shown lots of mercy by Allah for they were given a disadvantage in this world which meant they could never be like the rest of us. Answer by HumanNo, Allah would not punish them.
i don’t really know why mentally disabled people are created. i would only think that they are like a hardship and a test for the people who are taking care of those kind of people, like parents and families of those people.
Answer by Lib (PAKISTANI GIRL ONLINE)yes Allah will spare them but Allah has given many people the mind to look what is good !Answer by Mich
The Ulema of Islam do not decide favorably on the disadvantaged, the disabled/handicapped, the eccentric, and non-conformists.
Present day Islam’s position is in many respects is similar to the 1940’s NAZI ideology regarding such human beings.
