candy ex machina: What percentage of poor people commit crime?
I’m always hearing that poor people commit the majority of crime in America, but I’m having a difficult time finding any statistics that cite what the difference in crime rates between the impoverished and others actually is. Can some one help me out? Please do not answer this question if you cannot cite your sources. Thanks a billion.

I am poor, and I do not commit crimes.Answer by steve
How exactly would they divvy up crime’s by income level? Take a criminals tax return and see how much he grossed last year? Value up the loot?
You can show areas where crimes have been reported, then show that more crime’s are committed in poor areas, but then you’re just assuming that the local residents are also committing the crimes. (Though who would commute to a poor area to commit a crime? I’m thinking theft and what not, who would do that? Steal from the poor?)
Answer by SherryThat’s because your not looking for specific crimes. Your question wouldn’t include assaults and homicide, rackets such as con artist, white collar or even drug trafficking. Poor people are thought to commit more street crime. Usually low income crime such as robbing people for a couple dollars, although a felony, it doesn’t compare to drug dealers who are not considered impoverished, but may kill someone over $ 5.
You can check the FBI crime statistics https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/ucrAnswer by trancendance
i don’t think it’s possible to find a percent. there is a link between crime and poverty. low-income individuals are more likely to commit crimes, for a variety of reasons, and more likely to get arrested and go to prison. rich people commit crimes, but they less likely to get arrested and go to prison cause they have money and connections. in the US i’ve never heard of a rich person getting sent to federal prison for more than 10+ years or life even if they commit murder.
