Is it a state or federal law?
And why is this so?

There is no law.
We have state and federal laws dealing with the issue in Australia. I’m not going to look it up, Vegas.. but I’m guessing it relates to harbouring a criminal act.
Why so… I think you will find it is a codified law that is derived from common law principals so it is reasonably likely to apply in USA by reason that it is a common law jurisdiction.
It is not only health professionals bound up in that law… if you get your wife to suck out the poison, she will become a “person of interest”.
Answer by Patrick the CarpathianI know in Wisconsin if a person goes to the ER under suspicious circumstances the health care provider has to contact the police. And, the police take down information to determine if the injury was related to a crime (commission or victim).
