tallie marie: What kind of dance is used to act things out?
What kind of dance is used to act things out? I’m trying to think of an example….Like on So You Think You Can Dance, there were these people, I think they were named Josh and Katie, well they did a dance where he handed her a note, and I suppose it was to break up with her because they acted like they were fighting, all while dancing. So what type of dance is used to act things out like that? Thanks!

basically what your thinking of is interpretive dance. although this type of dance is when you literally use gestures and such to act things out, other types of dance do it to. ballet,jazz,lyrical,tap,hip hop,modern,and any other type of dance all tell a story but its just not as literal and obvious as interpretive dancing.
Well musical theatre sorta tells a story, you sing and dance and act out the song. Lyrical uses the words of a song to tell a story through dance. I’ve also seen modern tell a story…Answer by Jez .
It can be any style but with a storyline. Lyrical dancing always has a storyline based on the lyrics of a song but you can add one to any style like you can see on so you think you can dance.
