Bryan F: What is the purpose of the “Christmas tree”?
This question was asked in a class I was taken and I couldn’t answer it….Christians (except eastern Orothodox who celebrate a different day and Jehova Witnesses who don’t celebrate it at all) use this Christmas tree as do Atheists Even though they don’t …and I could get into the other religions but refuse to due to ignorance. I simply want to know what the puropse is for it or is it something that we just do because its “popular”? Is it purely religious (Christian or Pagan or …whatever..)
lol @ answerers here. Yeah..Remind me to stay away from this section…….

The Christmas tree comes from the pagan tradition in which worshippers would erect a tree, decorate it, and surround it with presents the morning after the Yule log was burned. This represented new life for their Child-king. A few days after the “Holly king’s” death, he would come back again as the “Oak King.” The Druids believed the spirit of their gods resided in the tree, the sacred tree of the winter-god. Most ancient pagans believed the tree represented Nimrod reincarnated into Tammuz. The pagan custom of decorating a tree was condemned in the scriptures: “Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven… For the customs of the peoples are vain; for one cutlet a tree out of the forest… they deck it with silver and gold.” (Jeremiah 10:2-4)Answer by ŨР™
This page will give the full pre-chrsitian history of the tree…

Answer by Maria IsabelThe Christmas Tree was originally the Yule Tree and the Pagans came up with the idea. They also came up with the idea of Christmas. The Catholic church stole many of their rituals and traditions from Pagan lore.
Blessed Be.
Answer by Moiraes FateThe stuff you put in the notes was uncalled for and rude. Grow up.
As for the Christmas tree, you have google, use it.
Btw, its not a Christian or an Atheist thing, its a Pagan one that the Christians stole from them to better convert them. As for the Atheists… honey get a brain. Don’t you find Christmas to be fun? Well, Atheists do too. Oh and get this… Christmas? Its also called Yule and Midwinter and is a celebration that was held for millenia before Christianity was even thought up.
Answer by Roger is dreading mud seasonIts a place for angels to sit. You see……..
One Christmas, a long time ago, Santa was getting ready for his annual trip… but there were problems everywhere.
Four of his elves got sick, and the trainee elves did not produce the toys as fast as the regular ones so Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behind schedule.
Then Mrs. Claus told Santa that her Mom was coming to visit.
This stressed Santa even more. When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out, heaven knows where.
More stress. Then when he began to load the sleigh one of the boards cracked and the toy bag fell to the ground and scattered the toys.
So, frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of coffee and a shot of whiskey. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered that the elves had hid the liquor and there was nothing to drink.
In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the coffee pot and it broke into hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found that mice had eaten the straw it was made from.
Just then the doorbell rang and Santa cussed on his way to the door. He opened the door and there was a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.
The angel said, very cheerfully, “Merry Christmas Santa. Isn’t it just a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Isn’t it just a lovely tree?
Where would you like me to stick it?”
And thus began the tradition of sticking the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.
Answer by Michael PBack in the middle ages at some point in time – I believe in a part of france that is now germany (or vice versa) – they substituted the pagan solstice holiday for something they called the feast of Adam and Eve. On the 24th, they would tell the story of the fall of man – and on the 25th, they would tell the story of the redemption of man.
Christmas trees were originally a prop – the only trees with green on them are evergreen. They would hang colorful balls from the tree to represent the forbidden fruit – the temptation that caused the fall of Adam and Eve.
Then the morning of the 25th they would celebrate the salvation of Man, the coming of the Messiah.
That’s how Christmas got its start and where the Christmas tree came from. The holiday has obviously evolved quite a bit since then.
Answer by Mike #1it was shown in a US newspaper as something families did at Christmas then everyone started doing it.Answer by angel
It does not have any significance with the CHRISTmas,it came about in The 16th or 17th century,,,there are many stories of it origins,,,it has just evolved and morphed into Christmas, decorations over the years,,it is in fact a pagan symbol,,,,,as VERY VERY sadly the commercialisation of Christs birthday is becoming in itselfAnswer by showstoppa
Christians adopted many of the “Christmas” traditions from pagans to try to wipe out the pagan population and allow the Christians celebration of Christmas to flourish. The tree, yule and many other things Christians use to celebrate are all from the pagan celebration of th winter solstice. Even the story of the birth of Christ is an adaptation of a female pagan god…Answer by shorty
