Amer: What is the overall spiritual or moral problem according to Islam?
I know that salvation in Islam is achieved through following the Kur’an and being a truly good person throughout life. But what is the central human problem according to Islam?

The human condition is expressed very succinctly in the Quran when God says, “You know not what profiteth you or what harmeth you.” Human beings stand in need of a divine educator. All the successive revelations from God’s Prophets and Messengers are intended to guide us along a path that will lead to our spiritual destiny – the Kingdom of God on Earth, as Jesus put into His prayer.

The biggest problem with mankind in islam if falling into associating partners with Allah in worship( Kufr or Sherk in arabic) it’s the greatest of all sins. and anyone who chooses to reject Islam which is the way of Allah and all the prophets from adam to muhammad, has fallen into this grave sin.

Holy Quran (4:48) :
“Allah forgiveth not that partners should be set up with him; but He forgiveth anything, else to whom He pleaseth; to set up partners with Allah is to devise a sin most heinous indeed. (48)”

Holy Quran (4: 116-122) :
“Allah forgiveth not (the sin of) joining other gods with Him: but He forgiveth whom He pleaseth other sins than this: one who joins other gods with Allah, hath strayed far, far away (from the Right). (116) (The pagans), leaving Him, call but upon female deities: they call but upon Satan the persistent rebel! (117) Allah did curse him, but he said: “I will take of Thy servants a portion marked off. (118) “I will mislead them and I will create in them false desires; I will order them to slit the ears of cattle and to deface the (fair) nature created by Allah.” Whoever, forsaking Allah, takes Satan for a friend, hath of a surety suffered a loss that is manifest. (119) Satan makes them promises, and creates in them false desires; but Satan’s promises are nothing but deception. (120) They (his dupes) will have their dwelling in Hell, and from it they will find no way of escape. (121) But those who believe and do deeds of righteousness― We shall soon admit them to Gardens, with rivers flowing beneath― to dwell therein for ever. Allah’s promise is the truth, and whose word can be truer than Allah’s? (122)”

Holy Quran (31:13) :
“Behold, Luqman said to his son admonishing him: “O my son! Join not in worship (others) with Allah: for false worship is indeed the highest wrong-doing.” (13)”

May Allah giude us all to the truth and save us from the hellfire.

The hardest thing in Islam which I guess you can call a problem is Jihad. Jihad is the fight within ones self to stop them from doing the wrong thing and believing strong enough to do what is right and just. This encompasses all things in Islam such as being late in prayers, not wearing hijab, eating haram foods, or drinking alcohol, etc…
Jihad is commonly misunderstood as permitting terrorists to kill “infidels” when it’s actually the exact opposite.
