••◘KC◘••: What is the difference that allows a parrot to copy sounds and words, but not a dog or a cat?
Are the voice boxes different, or what? What is it that makes a parrot capable of mimicking it’s owner, but not anyone other pet like a cat or dog?

Parrots have an adapted vocal chamber which is an adaptation that allows them to mimic sounds and to communicate with other parrots.
Dogs and cats never evolved this feature as there was no ecological reason for them to be able make such noises in the wild. Maybe through selective breeding over the next 10,000 years we can make a dog or cat that can talk!
