: What is the difference between pre-algebra and algebra 1?
I’m just wondering the difference between pre-algebra and algebra 1 because next year I’m in a higher level math class. Turns out, the higher level is algebra instead of pre-algebra.

If I remember correctly, pre-algebra is more about arithmetic on known numbers and everything you can do with numbers. Algebra expands all this knowledge to numbers that are not known, it lets you find the value of an unknown via arithmetic as if you knew its value
pre-algebra sort of prepares you for algebra and algebra 1 is like legit hardcore algebra
