Terry the Klown: What is the difference between God and Santa Claus that most people still believe in God but not Santa?
I mean, the Santa Claus character is close enough to the God character, he gives the good presents and gives the bad coal.
Apart from the fact that Santa makes a helluva lot more movies than God, I don’t really see any difference between the two.
So how come people believe in God but not Santa? Same question goes for every other religion.

Who has Santa ever killed….huh?Answer by rac <
It’s a bit weird. Santa always brought me the presents which I – with mum’s guidance – asked for. The only time he did not was when I asked for a real tiger, but then mum had pointed out the tiger can’t fit in the stocking anyway. God on the other hand doesn’t answer any proper prayers, like stopping someone from dying – and I even heard mum and everyone else praying that too.
They should have prayed to Santa instead.

Maybe because Santa Clause only helped the children out, and the adults felt bad so thus God was created to fill the gap.Answer by john s
well from my experience people keep beliving in god because he threatens hell instead of just a lump of coal. i think the reason humans need religion is most people would have no desire to live without him, and are too weak minded to be good people with out him threatening punishment, with out the mind control of mass religion the world would plunge into chaosAnswer by Sandya T
Only children who become adults stop believing in Santa Claus.
Faith in God may fade when people think that God has not done for them what they He should. But the importance of faith in God is that you believe in Him even if things don’t go the way you think it should.

Answer by AdanteWell, no same question doesn’t go for every relgion. Santa is only a christian tradition. Other religions don’t even have a substitute to Santa.
But to answer your question, as children grow they get proof that their parents are the ones giving the gifts. Their belief is taken away when proof comes along of Santa’s non-existeance. Such proof about god hasn’t come along yet. We have definitive proof about one, but not the other. This is why 100% of people don’t believe in Santa when given proof, but we still don’t have 100% believe or disbelieve in a god.

The origins of our beliefs concerning God and Santa are notably different. St. Nicholas was a monk in the 3rd century, and we can see how the stories about him have evolved from their original historical basis. We know, for example, that our current idea of Santa being a fat red elf comes from the imagination of Thomas Nast. The sorts of things that we see in children’s Christmas movies do not purport to have historical truth; they are self-avowed imaginary stories made for the entertainment of a particular audience. The origins of our knowledge of Jesus, on the other hand, come from the oldest and best-preserved historical documents in the world, have not changed over time, and are self-avowed as true history that is important and relevant. Furthermore, after centuries of careful study into the sources concerning Jesus, we can be reasonably certain that these sources are reliable and accurate and the things found therein are trustworthy and true (and by reasonably certain, I mean that in the same spirit as when I tell Young-Earthers we can be reasonably certain that the universe is more than 10,000 years old). With modern Santa stories, on the other hand, we don’t even have to look into it- the creators of these stories present them as fantasies in a very upfront way. So that’s several differences. Hope you like them.Answer by Matthew T
The Biblical “believe” is a much stronger word than to just have an opinion. We all have to believe either that God exists or that He doesn’t exist. We must believe one or the other. But we don’t have that situation with Santa.
You are just as much a believer as I am. You believe that God doesn’t exist, which is an unprovable belief.

well listen.. we got here some how.. think about that.. god is real. i know that.. until you invite him into your heart, then you can’t fully see… i am only21, and i have had my doubts.. and yes bad things still happen, and i am not sure why. all i know.. is that there is a higher power… you will see someday… talk to someone professionally. we didn’t evolve from monkeys or we would still be evolving from monkeys. like i said i had my doubts.. but get real.. comparing god to santa? who the hell has anyone got a present from santa?
