Smiley: What is the best way to catch a scammer red handed and lock them up for awhile?
Undercover? Promise to pay them and have the athorities meet them at western union? Find out where they are and beat the snot out of them? I mean, what CAN be done to “deter” them?
For example, you can get them to meet you at a certain location somewhere then nab them? I almost got someone to do that in the UK.

Girl there isn’t going to be anything to deter them. When one gets caught 5 others fill his place.
You may have to fly to Nigeria with a pair of handcuffs.Answer by E Money bagz
lol is this a computer security question….it’s mostly too difficult to track them down over a few dollars like this because most of the time they are in other countriesAnswer by Alex
The best way is to educate those people who fall for their tricks. A great book I’d suggest would be Social Engineering The Art Of Human Hacking, by Christopher Hadnagy. For a nice website try:

Educate yourself with common methods of Internet deception and you’ll be safe.
Answer by Tempo.OneBy “scammer”, do you mean e-mail scammer? (There is so many scams onn the internet).
Maybe like the one that I got last week from “James Brown, *President* of Nigeria”?
Most all of this sort of fradulant e-mail activity originates from peons in Nigeria, where the laws are weak and the authorities are easily bribed. Little can be done to bring these criminals to justice.
For a piss-poor country such as Nigeria, these internet scams are a major source of “hard-currency” (US dollar, UK pound, you know REAL money) for their local economy. The officials there simply “look the other way”
About the best one can do is scambait the b@$ ^@#ds and have some fun in the process.
“So what is scambaiting? Well, put simply, you enter into a dialogue with scammers, simply to waste their time and resources. Whilst you are doing this, you will be helping to keep the scammers away from real potential victims and screwing around with the minds of deserving thieves.”
“It doesn’t matter if you are new to this sport or a hardened veteran; if you are wasting the time of a scammer, or frustrating them in any way well that’s good enough for us, and we would welcome you to join with our now very large community.”

You need to think the way they do.
Have to remember that those security administrators who chase the bad guys were once bad guys themselves.Answer by Buffy Staffordshire
Yes, what you described is possible.
Since a Western Union money transfer can be picked up at any location in the entire world, staking out one facility won’t work. What does work is “scambaiting”, if you google that word you will find sites dedicated to that hobby. At the sites you find you can read scambaits, ask questions and post up any information you have on scam emails that have landed in your inbox.
