sman: What is the best desktop computer to buy?
My family just recently made the upgrade to cable internet and I’m looking to purchase a new desktop computer to replace our old one, the one we currently have is 10 years old. Any advice on which is the best to buy. We’re not looking for anything too fancy, just a basic setup. I have looked online at CNET for reviews and the two best reviewed they haver are HP Pavilion Slimline S3330f and eMachines T5254. Should I go with one of these or something else? Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You should go with an Apple because it isn’t really that fancy and it has yet to get a virus. You don’t even have to buy a brand new one. You can buy a refurbished one on the Apple Store website.Answer by jdbaum42
iMac or Mac MiniAnswer by Kelli G
At this point I would suggest any computer that is Pro capable. I have a HP Pavilion Pro. It seems to be great, as I have had no problems and I have a desk top version and a laptop version. I have had both for about 2yrs. The tech help is great and I am pleased with the performance I have gotten w/the wireless in my home and office. I have also seen others get good results w/the Acer brand computers. They are less expensive than HP. Always remember that they will offer you/try to get you to purchase way more than you need. Consult Consumer Reports once you have narrowed down your choices to 1 or 2. Happy surfing!Answer by Jose V
eMachines makes pretty good computers if you want something basic, the only downside is that its parts to make it sound better aren’t high end they are usually the cheapest of available parts at a certain performance. I use one when I’m not using my Mac I have had no problems with it other than the couple of viruses I got so I had to get some software to fix it. All in all its probably the best value for PCs.Answer by Joe W
Macs are so over priced. Pay an extra $ 1000 so you don’t get a virus….ooooooh smart. They have become trendy and therefore overly expensive. Sure you can get a lot more put into a mac, but for what? I will save my $ 4000 and build my own pc that will work just fine. Unless you are a computer animator looking to render a full length Pixar movie, you don’t need one.
Go with the e machines if you are looking for something basic and cheap. If your computer is 10 years old, you will think it is the greatest thing in the world.
