thunder_baby04: What is a good religion to compare and contrast Catholicism with?
I am writing a Report on Catholicism. Part of the report is to compare and contrast my religion of choice with another religion.
What I want to know is what religion is going to effectively compare and contrast with Catholicism? Any ideas are welcome!
(Thanks!)

Protestants. The Protestants were originally Roman Catholice, but in the 1500’s, Martin Luther, a Catholic monk, led a sort of revolt against the Catholic Church, and nailed 95 theses in the door of the Catholic Church in Wittenburg, Germany. These were to protest the wickednesses in the Catholic Church. Those who followed him came to be called Lutherans. Martin Luther’s break from the Catholic Church was not his idea, it was the church who excommunicated him. His ‘reformation’ changed the entire world, as his teachings spread like wildfire. Prior to the Reformation, the world was in the ‘dark ages’. People could not read or write. Martin translated the Bible into German, and he opened schools to teach people to read and write. The world came out of the dark ages. This would be a very interesting topic for you. If you Google ‘Reformation’ you will find much interesting, additional information. Best wishes.Answer by Kate
I would use Hinduism, the three principal gods are not really like the parts of the Trinity, but they have a few similarities and it would definately make a creative choice. You could discuss the similarities and differences. To get you started they are: Vishnu, Krishna and Shiva. I’ve always wanted to do a comparitive study of these religions. You could also compare and contrast the saints with the more minor Hindu deities and discuss the fact that Catholicism stesses equality (the Good Samaritan) and Hinduism has a rigid class structure. Islam. Of course.
Why ?
1. At first impression people think that Muslims are bad, but in the Medieval Ages who did torture? the Vatican Right? And of course the recent one the inhumane killings of innocent Muslims by the American soldiers.
2.The Qur’an has been remained UNCHANGED since the day of it’s composition.
3. It’s was stated in the Qur’an that the Earth was round almost 900 yrs. before Magellan did discover.
4. Because of their faith, they have formed one of the greatest gatherings
on the planet can be seen on the Hajj.
5. There’s also a strong proof that the prophets existed through Kaa’ba. They built that one.
6. Can you see other people pray 5 times a day? How faithful
7. Have ever wonder that Muslim rulers are victorious for they have defeated many crusaders

The closest one would be the Orthodox Church. They essentially hold the same beliefs as Catholics, only they do not acknowledge the Pope as successor to Peter.
The furthest from Catholics would be any of the non-Christian sects (Muslim, Buddhists, Hindus etc) for the simple reason they do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as God. (The Jehovah’s Witness, Mormons, Universals etc…could be included as well).
In the middle you will find a smorgasbord of Protestant churches teaching a wide variety of views, but very few, if any, agreeing on everything. They all claim to be led by the Holy Spirit, but we know this to not be true, as the Holy Spirit is not the Author of confusion, but of Truth.
To compare one with the Catholic Church, you would need to find one that has been in existence since the first century and has not changed a single doctrine in all of Her existence. This is going to be the hard part, as no Protestant church can make this claim.
To contrast is the easy part, as any other religion, be it Christian or not, contrast in some way from the Catholic Church. As Scripture says, the Word of God is never changing. The Catholic Church is a fine example of this.
Answer by Patty CThat would be Jehovah’s Witnesses because they are just the opposite of Catholicism. They do not get involved in politics nor do they go to war and kill one another. They truly follow the Bible to a T! They advocate God’s kingdom as the only hope for mankind while Catholicism hails the United Nations Organization to bring peace and security. They preach the Good news of God’s kingdom which was for told for our time at Matt 24:14. They follow Jesus footsteps very closely. That is quite a contrast don’t you think? Jesus said that all would recognize his disciples because of the love they have amongst themselves. Jesus said that “the ruler of this world is coming and he has no hold on me” Now, who was he speaking of? Satan, and that is why Jesus said his followers were to be no part of this world. Remember how satan offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and its glory? Well, that shows that he is the one backing all of the governments of man does it not? Jesus said “my kingdom is no part of this world”Answer by Alltheway88fan
First of all Catholicism was created by man during the times of the Roman empire around 606 A.D. I am assuming that your religion is Catholic since you are having to compare your religion with something else. I would begin investigating the fact that the Catholic religion was invented later than the first century when Jesus established His church through the apostles. The scriptures tell us that Jesus died for the church..a singular noun. That means there is one church. All others have to be man made in some form or another. Therefore, If you read religious history you will see that many men have created other doctrines and churches and others have followed in behind them…Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Seventh Day Adventist, Mormon, Presbyterian, etc. Why is it that in mathematics and at the gas pumps we all realize there has to be a standard, i.e 1+1 = 2 all the time. WE want every gas pump to pump us exactly 1 gallon..but when it come to religion we think that it is alright to believe whatever we want to believe with no objective standard? What is the standard? And where can it be found? I hope your search leads you to the truth and you find truth in God.Answer by bxeastman14
baptists! there like the same thing but so different in so many ways…btw the catholic religion goes against the bibel
