Switch it up: What is a “claims history”?
When dealing with insurance what is a “claims history”?
I assume it’s a history of all the times you had to make a “claim”.
What I’m curious is how does one insurance company know about the claim from another?
Is there some kind of database or something were all your claim history is kept? Kind like how all your credit history is kept at a credit bureau?

You are correct. Claims history has to do with any time that you filed a claim against your policy.
There is a claims database that 95% of insurance companies use. They are called C.L.U.E. reports (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange). Insurance companies use CLUE reports to determine your claims history. CLUE reports can go as far back as 7 years. If you had a claim over 7 years ago, they are usually not included. Most companies will underwrite the last 3 years of your claims history.
Answer by jlfYes, insurance companies exchange claim information. Google “CLUE report.”Answer by mtwaites
The claims history, i believe shows when you had reported an accident against your vehicle or if you have made any claims, or anyone has made any claims towards your vehicle.Answer by mbrcatz
There’s a database, called the Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange. All insurance companies report all parties to all paid claims to them, so when a new policy is written, the new company gets a report of all claims at that address, or that vin, or that driver.Answer by lucy
CLUE is usually used by agents and/or underwriters when you submit an application for insurance.
In claims, a lot of companies use ISO; believe it stands for Insurance Services Organization.
If you had an accident, they report it to the ISO of this claim. It could be WC, homeowners, auto etc.
So say you are injured in an auto accident and they look in ISO and find that you had an auto accident 5 years ago and reported injuries with XYZ company. The adjuster contacts XYZ and verified what kind of injuries you had with XYZ vs your current injuries in this claim.
A lot of fraud is found through this organization. I found one claimant who reported 2 claims to 2 different companies for the same accident. He was trying to get duplicate payments for his medical bills.
I also found where one claimant had deliberately stepped in front of cars claiming injuries with 2 other companies in the past and claiming the same with ours for the 3rd. That one I loved since he had an attorney that once he found out, got rid of the client. lol
