: What happens to your pet if you are abducted?
You live by yourself. You have a pet bird or rabbit or anything else that lives in a cage and cannot feed itself. If you are abducted, what happens to the pet? Does it starve to death? If your abduction is known about immediately, would friends/family/law enforcement intervene so that the pet would not starve? What if there weren’t any friends or family to take care of the pet? And specifically for law enforcement, would they even care or would it be too low of priority compared to your abduction?
This is for a story I am writing. You’re help is appreciated!

ASPCA will enter the premises and impound the pet if they are notified. But if no one knows you are missing, the neighbors are unlikely to call them over a tweeting bird or barking rabbit.Answer by julvrug
It depends on how well you have planned for any type of disaster. Law enforcement would have nothing to do with the care of your pets, that is up to you to plan for unforeseen events. An abduction is about the same as if you were severely injured and kept in the hospital for days, hopefully you were bright enough to plan for such an event and your pet would be cared for.Answer by Royal
In AR, when the police were finally called, they would be required by law to call the local animal officer and make arrangements for the animal’s care. If family were available and could give care, that would be considered, if no family or close friends, the law (at least in my county) states the officers would have to make arrangements. ‘
Sounds good, however, AFTER you were found, you would be charged. If your animals had no record of vaccinations, that would be taken care of while they were in state care, and you would be charged. If you were kept too long, the same law would apply to your animals as any animal taken in otherwise; in a certain amount to time the animals would be up for adoption; if the animals were not adopted in time enough, they would be euthanized.
If an animal control officer knew the circumstances it MIGHT make a difference, but maybe not.Answer by Pastels
I’d assume friends and family would step in, if there were no friends or family or they are unable/unwilling to step in animal control is called to take care of the pet.
