Unknown: What happens to the pets at a pet store if the pet store goes out of business?
It is advised that when wanting a pet, it is best to adopt at a shelter or adopt one from a reputable breeder. Pet store pets come from puppy mills and buying a pet from a pet store is supporting puppy mills.
But what happens to the pets if the pet store shuts down? Are they put in animal shelters? If they’re going to end up in animal shelters anyway, isn’t purchasing a pet “saving” it?

They eat them 🙁
You have good logic, I must admit. BUT! Unless your buying when the pet store for sure is closing it IS better to get from the shelter.Answer by Mysterioussmile
Most of the time stores close and reopen NEW ones. The animals will be moved to the new store. OR moved to a near by pet store. They wouldnt give pets away. Pet stores buy pets and sell them for more then they bought them for. They would make no profet by giving the pets to a shelter; for free.Answer by Pamela
Most Pet stores today are chain stores. So when one goes out of business they just close the doors and then proceed to do inventory and sen stock to the other stores that can make use of the stock with out reordering it.
