Ruby: What is the daily routine for the owner of a shetland pony?
My mum is think of getting me a shetland pony but one thing she is concerned about is getting up early. Could we feed the pony as soon as we get up this is 6 o’clock on week days and 9 o’clock on weekends. Would this be ok?

horses dont have to eat at sunrise lol you could actually feed it every evening and you would be fine my friend feed’s her horses at 7 at night in the summer and 5 in the winter or right around sundown
We were told that shetland ponies don’t need any more then a cup full of pellets a day as long as they have a good lot of grass in the paddock, which was true until we started to spoil them with lucerne!
They also get really stroppy if they aren’t fed when they demand it, so it would probably be better to feed them like you say you are going to and ignore any bad behaviour to get more, assuming that the 6 oclock rise on week days is when you go to school/work and sleep in on the weekends. That way they know you aren’t going to wait around on them hand and foot lol
It wouldn’t matter what time of day you feed them, as long as it’s around the same time each day, as ours tend to stand around with a bored look on their face until they are taken to more grass. Our mare comes up onto the verander to get our g/pig’s food!
Good luck, they are a great little pony, but they can be stubborn and crabby at times!
