Noah Jalline: What puppy should i get which would act best around a rabbit?
I have a 6 months old dwarf lion head rabbit as a house rabbit. I am going to get a puppy, which out of these choices would be best seeing as i have a rabbit –
-Miniature Dachshund
-Beagle
-Pug
-Spaniel
I would rather get a beagle though.
Also how could I introduce them as my rabbit is quite small.
Any tips on anything about this subject is helpful thanks.

All should be fine with the right training 🙂
get the dog you want and introduce it to the rabbit with a lead on or holding its colar. if he goes for the rabbits use a discipline method and try again repeat this and the dog will learn
Most Definitely Beagle or Miniature Dachshund.
I hear that Spaniels are very aggressive sometimes. & Jealous when it comes to the owner’s love.
So it just may harm the rabbit.
& i don’t know much about pugs & they aren’t exactly my favorite dog; haha !Answer by ladystang
why would you want a dog around a rabbit
any dog will chase a rabbit. you have to train them.
a beagle is a hunting dog, so it will be really hard to train him.
dachshund was bred for hunting.
spaniel bred for hunting
not sure for pugs.Answer by Tonya Rock
Not beagle or spaniel, because they are hunting dogs so they will wanna eat your rabbit. Pug is the best tempered. Beagle is the hardest to train, so by the time you’d train it to not eat your rabbit, it would have already eatin it. I reccomend pug. Best regards though,Answer by 甘さちゃん
I would recommend either a beagle or a spaniel…
But I have two rabbits and a poodle, and they seem to get along perfectly.
I also have nine labs, but they don’t really care about my rabbit. xD
If your puppy is wild, make sure to keep your rabbit in a cage, a tiny house, or somewhere far from your puppy.Answer by SugaFert
There is no guarantee that they will get along, please bear that in mind. With the correct training most will learn to co-exist but you will get some dogs that just won’t get along with rabbits no matter the breed. Please bear this in mind before you buy, once you have the dog its your responsibility and you can’t just dump it cos it doesn’t like the bunny.Answer by nature_girl
To me, pugs seem like the least vicious towards a rabbit. There is barely any way for him to hurt a rabbit…but you still need to train them just in case.Answer by Shara
Any breed of dog that was bred for hunting, such as spaniels, doxies and beagles, are not a good choice to be around pets that are prey. Beagles are actually bred specifically to hunt rabbits and begin to trail them as youngsters, instinctively.
I have 2 pugs and 30 rabbits but I still don’t leave the dogs alone with the rabbits. However, they don’t show more than mild curiousity about them. Pugs are bred strictly for companionship (not hunting, guarding, herding). I have a pic of my pug and some baby rabbits on my site in my photo gallery.
Answer by uaapdI currently have a 9 year old Pug bitch (spayed), and until recently had a spayed Mini Dutch (male) bunny, and previously had a male Beagle (not spayed).
My Pug and Bunny got along famously – they were quite similar in size and the dog more tame than the rabbit.
Pugs are bred as “lap dogs” so they enjoy company and are pleasant natured. Beagles are a hound, bred for chasing rabbits out of warrens for hunters – a beagle is a pleasant natured dog also, but his “job” is to chase small animals.
I’ve not had any personal experience with Mini Dachshund, nor Spaniels. Dachshunds tend to be a little more aloof and can be a bit snappy.
Do some research and talk to some registered breeders or a vet for advice. But based on my experience, I’d go the pug.
