TheIceCream: How can I stop a cat hanging around? and how can I treat a bite from a cat?
My cat has recently been ganged up on by another cat in my area. He is constantly around our house starting fights with her. She’s a small cat and she’s had a few nasty bites these last few months. Usually after she gets bitten there’s a $ 300 vet bill to pay… What could I do to stop this other cat hanging around? Or if there’s nothing I can do, what kind of antiseptic cream could I put on the bite to stop it getting infected (that wont hurt her if she licks it off)?
I’ve been told she may be on heat, but this fighting has got to stop.

1. She has been spayed.
2. The male cat is not feral, he belongs to a nice lady down the road
3. This cat is NOT an inside cat. No way, not ever. You try having her in for one night. She has a cat door to wander in and out downstairs but the other cat has learnt to follow her in. I’m not keeping her inside. At all. Not an option. She’s psycho at night.

Keep your cat in.
Why dont you just keep the poor cat inside??? this is all you have to do and if she is in heat why would you let her out anyway? do you want more cats all over the neighborhood? keep your cat indoors and get her spayed and let her live a peaceful life without the violence that she is experience probably on a day to day basis she is probably scared to death!!! use neosporin on her cuts and bites it doesnt matter if she licks it off either way she will get the antibiotics into her system…PLEASE KEEP HER INDOORS AND SAVE HER LIFE!!!Answer by JC
For the cuts, I use Bag Balm (green metal can, normal use is for cow udders… but it works great for sores and whatnot) and some triple antibiotic ointment.
As for the other cat… call animal control. Or get a squirt gun. Both tend to work well.
Answer by KellShe more than likely is in heat and that is why the male cat is around in the first place. My vet gave us some stuff to put on our kitten when she got bit. but he told us that you can use just a dab of peroxide on a cotton ball to clean the wound even if they lick it that much won’t hurt them but it taste bad so she might not. As for the cat if you can get him take him to a shelter or call a local shelter that could take him in but the only way to probably keep the cats away is to get her fixed.Answer by Audrey A
First, definitely get her spayed. If she is in heat that will help to deter the other cat. Keep her inside for a while as well until the other cat gives up ( I would suggest keeping her as an indoor cat permanently). Other than that, or call the pound to take away the other cat, there isn’t much else you can do. As for the bite wounds, you need to have them treated by a vet. Cat bites get infected very easily, which can lead to abscesses or worse.Answer by jwhtewolfd
First, get your cat spayed. She will be healthier and happier for it.
Second, keep your cat indoors. She’s obviously suffering from cat fights. What is she were to be hit by a car? She can live a perfectly happy and fulfilling life indoors. But you should still have her spayed.
Also, you will not be able to put anything on the wound to prevent infection. Cat bites are so bad because the tooth acts like a bacteria injection. The tip of the tooth is small, so the wound on the skin closes quickly, trapping all the bacteria inside. Antibiotics are the best course of action to avoid a nasty, painful abscess.
Answer by LilahWell, for one, you can keep your cat indoors so that she doesn’t have to suffer these bites anymore. It’s awful that she is having to go through this. There is no cream to put on that will clear up infection and not harm your cat if ingested. A trip to the vet for anti-biotics is the only thing. Please keep your kitty inside. She will thank you for a pain-free existance.Answer by krazy_dun

buy a gun!Answer by Angelica W
Since you know who the visiting cat belongs to, why not pay a friendly visit to this lady and explain the situation. See if there is some compromise you both can arrive at that will satisfy everyone involved.
You can also call your vet and ask for advice. I certainly wouldn’t want my indoor/outdoor cat being bullied by a neighbor’s cat.
Answer by kittywhite92630Cats can be territorial – especially males that have not been neutered. There is really nothing you can do to stop the fighting between the two of them since you can’t keep your cat indoors. All I can really suggest is that you spray the male cat with your garden hose whenever he comes near. He will eventually get the hint and move on. Good luck! Feline territory wars are noisy and not very much fun to deal with.Answer by hard2getbutch
ok. there is such thing as a water hose. if you see him in your yard… spray him till he leaves. this will only take one time if he is smart. Remove her cat food. dont feed her outside, maybe he is coming for her food cause he likes it more. If you can or if you have a dog… teather him outside in the front for a few days. if you dont have a dog… borrow a friends. the cat will see the dog… and stop coming. Of course… make sure your own cat avoids the dog. (just in case)
hope least one of these works.
Answer by enasgardenThe worst thing you can do to a domestic cat is to let it outside. They become infested with poison from mice, and also get into fights.
As long as a cat has a window to look out, they are much safer inside, and your wallet will be fatter.
You said it was neutered?? Then obviously cannot be in heat. Some cats are, like people, naturally aggressive, and that sounds like the neighbors cat.
Always wash wounds with a little peroxide as this cleanses the wound and saves it from getting infected,Answer by Elz
give the offending cat a good hard kick and hopefully it will stay away! ;P good luck!Answer by julie m
treat the scratchs with triple antibiotics, make sure that she doesnt lick it off..place vasolline over the antibiotics.. the other cat can be sprayed place a water hose outside your door and everytime he comes around spray him. outside water system with a timer will work. a tape recorder of a dog barking maybe a big dogAnswer by toochins
is there food readily available for this other cat to get at.. if so remove it so only your cat eats it. for sores or bites you can put neosporin on it. it wont hurt her if she licks it. if they are deep wounds then she needs to see a vet. there were stray cats and owned cats hanging around my house because they were stealing food from me, now i make sure that only my cats eat. when my cats are done i put it up until later then i put it back down later that night. my cats are also outside cats, they are bad so they are not allowed in the house.
