krazystylist10: What age should you start feeding a puppy dog/puppy food?
I just got a 6 week old puppy. He seems to be having a difficult time eating the food i give him. I bought him puppy chow and am mixing water with it t o soften it up. He seems to eat it so fast that he ends up throwing it back up. Should I continue doing what I am doing or should I try bottle feeding him for a week or so until he is older? I am starting to think he was to young to leave his mom.

he was too yound to leave his mom.
Whoever you got him from should have known that 8 weeks is the youngest age to leave his mother.
there is nothing wrong with feeding him puppy food though.
some dogs just eat fast.
you should only give him a tiny bit of food at a time, like a handful, and wait a few minutes between the small amounts of food.
because hes not eating so fast, he wont throw it up.

Answer by Little Fillywhat breed is your pup? 6 weeks is NOT necessarily too young… I had a Schipperkee that was just 5 weeks old when she left Mom and she did super. Feed puppy chow -best of all when you take your pup to the Vet for his exam, talk to him… you DO need to get him in to a Vet… pups this young often have worm problems that could kill them if left unattended, and you can’t always tell they have certain worms until it is too late…. We just got two new pups at 5 mos. they were on puppy chow until 6 mos when we had them neutered and spayed. Our vet said that it was time to then put them on regular dog food -good quality food for young active dogs. Your Vet can recommend several choices. Good luck with your pup.Answer by Amanda
Was the person you got him from feeding him any solid food? If they were you should check what kind it was a feed him that type, mixing it in with new food you want to feed him a little each day to transition slowly to the new food (puppies have very sensitive stomachs and a sudden switch of food can cause vomiting/diarrhea).
Make sure you’re feeding him the proper amount. Puppies can very easily eat too much and end up vomiting. Check the bag or with your vet to see how much you should be feeding him at once, this all depends on the size and weight of the dog. If you’re mixing it with water make sure you’re not adding too much (use less food if you’re mixing it with water, water makes the food expand).
If the only problem is eating the food too quickly, try giving it to him just a spoon full at a time to slow him down.
Answer by CarolIf he is a large breed or Medium breed he is fine to leave his mom. Most puppies do stay at least until 7wks but that is for mostly social skills. They should be weaned at 4-6wks all the way depending on size. VERY Tiny puppies longer. But you may want to try feed him 4 times a day until he is about 8wks then 3 times a day until he is 4 months. Then you can switch to twice daily until he is a year. Even then it is better to feed a dog 2 times daily it is better for their digestion. He is too hungary when you feed him and eats too much and has to throw it up. Continue soaking the food that is great that you started that.Answer by Austin C
A puppy eats a lot of food. From birth up to six months of age, he’ll need to eat two to four times as much as an adult dog or cat to support all that growth.
