Eddie: What dog is best around young children?
My wife would like us to get a dog for our new home. My biggest concern is that we are planning a family and the effect a dog might have on a baby in the future. Most people have told me to find a specific dog that lives well with young kids.
Any suggestions?

Me and my family have always had Boxers and they are great with kids.
Specific dog? sure
the one that’s been bred responsibly, with sound temperament..
the one that you train properly, socialize and provide structure and discipline
its not breed specific
Answer by swim.is.lifegolden retrievers are so friendly, and kind, and very gentle. labs are wonderful too (:Answer by Amber
I suggest a Chocolate Labrador they are sooooooooooooooo sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have one and i have 3 kids ages 4, 7, and 11 and the dog lets them do anything to her. She has never bitten anyone and she never barks she gets along with everyone and everything. and if you’re looking for stuff to do in the summer we always take her swimming in the lake it always entertains the kidsAnswer by DeeDawg
the socialization is more important than the breed, although some breeds are gentler than others by nature.
get any breed you like, provided that it’s well bred and the parents are temperamentally sound, and then socialize it with children- LOTS. a dog who is comfortable around children BEFORE you have any will really help, because once you have a baby, you’ll have little time to socialize and train the dog.
another option is adopting an adult dog who has lived with children. lots of people are losing their homes and their dogs are being placed in rescues and shelters. you can contact some local rescues of the breeds that you like, and let them know what you’re looking for. they will be able to match you up with a dog who has lived with (or is good with children) and may even be somewhat trained!Answer by ŠKU££
According to some members here a pit bull is the ideal dog to have around children, and they go so far as to flood YOUTUBE with videos of it.
Who am I to argue with the ”experts”. Get a pit bull.
Answer by KingofSnowAs has been said, breed has little to do with it.
Find someone who has properly socialized animals that have been raised with children.
Also, just so you know, labs and GRs will need to be socialized, exercised, and trained just like any other breed. It’s not genetic for them to be perfect little angels who already know it’s wrong to chew up the couch, dig holes, and even to become possessive of things.
And though well bred pit bulls do well with children, I won’t recommend one to you. They’re not a breed for someone who isn’t prepared for a real dog and the challenges of a backwards society.
