JD: I have a parrot that has every toy on the block. How do I get him to stop chewing on things in my house.?
I have an African Senegal Parrot that is the nicest and most affectionate bird. He has more toys than you can imagine and a deluxe play gym on top of his cage with even more toys. He insists on chewing on other items in my house like furniture and the levelor blinds. What should I do?

This can be a problem with Parrots. Many of them are “Chewers”, since it is in their nature. It is impossible to stop mother nature. 🙂
You might try spraying “Bitters” on your furniture and delicate items. This substance tastes so bad that it supposedly deters birds from chewing.
Check your local bird store for it, or try DrsFosterSmith.com
Good luck
Answer by Attorney in FLOur pair of Ecelctus parrots have lots of toys hanging in their cage and yet the female (mostly) insists on chewing the plaster off the walls, the wood frames around the windows and the plastic blinds. The best thing to do is keep the birds away from those things you do not want chewed. If the bird is out of its cage, just watch it. However, we bought Ginger a wooden (nesting) box with a big hole in the front and a wooden lid that just lifted up at one end. She spent a lot of time in there chewing the box up from the inside. First she made the hole in the front bigger and then she started chewing up the lid until half of it was gone. That wooden box was cheaper than having to redo the wood work in my living room. We also put a piece of two by four on top of the cage just as a big chew toy. It does not stop her entirely from going after the blinds, but apparently they are part woodpecker or beaver and love to chew and splinter wood, so just give them something that you do not mind them chewing on. For some reason the raw UNTREATED wood is much more fun than all the fancy toys.Answer by Grant M
When you let the bird out you will have to keep an eye on it or keep it in the cage… All birds chew…. No matter how young or how old… they all chew… Good luck Grant M in Pennsylvania
