In cooking terminology, what does divided butter mean? It says in a recipe, “5 tblspoons of butter divided”.

it means you will use part in one area and the rest in another for 5 tablespoons total

You cut it up by tablespoons because you’ll be using it in parts.

it means u use some of the butter in one part of the recipe and some in the other with 5 TBSP being the total amount used
