You need a degree in physics or some sort of engineering, and it wouldn’t hurt to also have degrees in astronomy and/or geology.
You will need a PhD in at least one of those subjects (or the equivalent, a DSc, for the engineering degree).

It’s not too clear what you mean by “control”, since huge sums of other peoples money are involved, there is a lot of politics involved, one might well label the career “Politician”. However an advanced degree in physics, astronomy or similar will probably be needed for appearances sake, but don’t skimp on the accounting / business management type classes and making “connections” as those will probably be more important.Answer by Cirric
