Amanda B: What are good quick vacations to take with a 2 year old?
I have a very energetic two year old daughter. I remember taking very few vacations as a child and I want my child to have those memories and pictures. I live in South Louisiana and I’m looking for quick, short vacation ideas. Nothing requiring flying or more than six hours driving.

At the age of 2 , she won’t remember anything and I don’t think you do either. Age 4-5 is when she’ll remember a few things. Just take her to a park or beach and let her play.
Take her camping. When I was younger we use to do that every weekend and I loved it. You get to go swimming, play in the sand, look at the fire and just be outside.Answer by Kelsey D

I would start with fun things that are in or near your town – when my kids were little we would pack a picnic lunch and head to a different town – then we would look for a neighborhood park with a cool playground and play and eat there – My kids used to say we “hit the jackpot’ they are now in their 30’s and still talk about that.
Next up – cheesy roadside attractions – where I’m from in upstate NY there were a bunch of them: Story book land, the North Pole, Enchanted Forest etc.
My mom and I always had a rite of spring where we loaded the ‘beachbag’ We had swimsuits and towels at the ready in the event we were somewhere where we could swim. I think we only actually used them 1 or 2 times a year but just knowing it was there and a youngster – was magic to me.
The next thing is festivals – every town seems to have festivals or fairs – they always have something that is free and fun for little ones. Your state put them all together here:
lots of good info like milage charts etc.
And last but not least – if you belong to AAA get their tourbook for your state – if you don’t belong see if someone you know does – always good info on the unexpected in there.
Have fun making memories – but your daughter will treasure the time with you whatever you do.
