i am getting a tattoo tomorrow.. expecting it to be about 150-175 its my first one.. anything i can take to lessen the pain? what should i expect? how much do i tip? its going on my inner forearm

one way to lessen the pain is to not disfigure your body.

To lessen the pain, take motrin about an hour before you go. You will still feel it, but it will take the edge off. You should tip that tattooer around 15% like you would for most other services. remember, tipping is not a city in china!

I have 4 tattoos. I always tip between $ 25-$ 40 no matter how much the tat costs. (depends on my mood :))

As far as the pain goes…suck it up babe. It doesn’t hurt that bad anyway. After about 5 minutes of sitting there, the pain turns into an annoying scratching feeling. It’s really not that bad.

You should expect it to be uncomfortable. I don’t think it hurts enough to bother taking anything. Your muscles may be sore the next day, and you can always take a pain reliever. 10-15% is the standard tip, but base the tip on how pleased you are with the piece.

i hope you have done your research on the tattoo artist that you’ll be getting the tattoo from. the MOST important thing is chosing a talented artist, it makes all the difference in the world.
you should not take anything for pain, as all painkillers thin the blood and topical cremes change the texture of your skin and the tattooer will not be able to do his job as well.

i’m not sure what you should expect as everybody feels something different when they get tattooed. out of all of the tattoo time i have had it has all hurt but it has all been completely bearable. i always bring a book to read or a friend to talk to. it doesn’t eliminate the pain but it does distract from it.

tipping is completely up to you and should be decided upon completion of the tattoo. if you love it you should tip more than if you absolutely hate it. tip them what you think is apropriate.

do not take any Ibupofin containing pain relievers, they are blood thinners you will bleed more and it will take longer, just suck it up and enjoy the pain, and alway’s tip a good artist for his time.
