Goodman: tattoo supporters! plz give me some good points for tattooing?
or is it just a blind following?
bad points of tattooing are:
1. spoils natural good look of a person.
2. scratches/cuts on the skin is infectious.
3. inks when absorbed in the blood stream is poisonous.
4. it can lead to skin cancers.
5. when not wanted, removing it is another problem.
6. many employers deny jobs to tattooers.
7. many anti-social people use tattoos.
8. people r shocked to see a badly tattooed person.
9. tattooers often invite social criticism.
10. …
but good points of tattooing:
i m sorry, unable to find any ๐
so, please tell me!
red sunshine!
instead of aping me point by point, why don’t u bring out some original points of urs, r u a monkey or what?
stephany!
yea some of ur points r agreeable 2 me but not all e.g. u said life will b boring if all people look the same! don’t u know that no two people in the world look exactly the same!?! we r all different already, u don’t need a tattoo to make u look different except looking odd ๐
4 cindy, i think her statement in d first line “wont more” and in the last line “they are the window to your sole” r enough ๐
juli!
plz read my downsides to ur up sides to tattoos:
1. They are a lasting form of artwork
artworks are better done on canvases not on human skin ๐
2. They are rooted in ancient tradition and ceremony and for many are a symbol of spirituality
ancient traditions & ceremonies r outdated social habits of the barbarians that we should stop following by now!
spirituality has nothing to do with tattoos whatsoever!
3. They are a unique form of self expression
self expression can be in many other better ways than dirtying urself with some colored inks.
4. They can be used as a perminant honor or memorial to a loved one, or place
tattoo has nothing to do with love.love is in the heart not on the tattoos.
tattooing some sacred picture on your body degrades it rather than honoring it.
5. When cosmetic surgery is unavaliable or unaffordable, they can be used to cover minor deformities in the skin such as birth marks or scars.
birth marks r indeed good natural individual expression, why cover it with dirty inks?
deformities or scars cannot be covered by tattoos, instead they become more exposed & visible when people look at the tattoos trying to cover them.
6. They can improve self image of those who are self consious (myself included)
tattoos degrade the self image and you become more self-conscious when you sport the tattoos.
7. They provide a connection for people who otherwise may have nothing in common and bring together many walks of life
people are connected by their study groups, professions, team works, clubs, associations, unions etc not by tattoos.
8. They can provide an instant conversation starter for almost any occasion.
tattoos instantly turns off people’s interest to talk to a person if he/she sports tattoos.
9. Tattoos invite social criticism and social change.
social change for the worse is never welcome ๐
i hope by now ur mis-conceptions about tattoos r clarified ๐
hello!
a clarification plz:
“many anti-social people use tattoos.”
yes, there r many underground gangs who use tattoos as a symbol to frighten people, showing their specific tattoo marks to the people that they belong to that particular dreaded gang and they frighten, beat up, loot, torture & kill people! So good use 4 tattoo haa! ๐

1. Enhances the natural beauty of a person
2. Is not infectious if taken care of properly by the wearer
3. Ink does NOT go into the blood stream; it’s only on the skin
4. It does NOT lead to skin cancer
5. Only when the person doesn’t think it through is when it’s not wanted and it would be a problem regardless of how the removal happens
6. Many employers are ok with people having visible tattoos; and if they’re not, there is always the option of covering it with clothing such as long sleeves and slacks
7. Many outgoing people as well as professional people have tattoos (not “use”)
8. People ARE shocked to see a badly-tattooed person and that’s why people should put a lot of thought into it beforehand
9. Tattooers as well as collectors don’t “invite” social criticism – that happens on it’s own by people like you who can’t keep their rude remarks to themselves
It’s all in the perspective:
1. Enhances the natural good looks of a person
2. Yes, tattoos while they’re healing can get infected. So can’t cat scratches or any other break in the skin caused by any activity. Go to a gym? Hotbed for staph infections.
3. Blood poisoning from ink is a myth
4. I don’t even know where you got this one. People who have spent hundreds or even thousands of dollars on their ink are, in my experience, far more likely to use sunscreen or keep covered up in the sun. That reduces skin cancer.
5. Yes, removal is costly and time consuming. That’s an argument for not getting tattoos on a whim, but not so much against tattoos in general. I don’t want any of mine removed, and neither do most people I know.
6. I’ve never been denied a job because of my tattoos. It occasionally leaves me in sleeves on a hot day when I’m in corporate mode, but other than that there has been no inconvenience.
7. Many anti-social people drive too. I’m not turning in my car for that reason.
8. So don’t get bad tattoos.
9. So what? I’d go insane if I lived every aspect of my life just to avoid social criticism. Who’s standards do you choose exactly? Because I can get conflicting points of view on just about every issue, not just tattoos.
You might as well ask the “good points” for dyeing hair or whitening teeth. My tattoos all have meaning for me and my husband and I like the way they look. I can see that the same isn’t true for you, so don’t get any tattoos. It’s not hurting you in the least for me to have color on my skin.
There are lots of things in this world that I don’t see the point in. So I just don’t do those things. Simple, isn’t it? It’s not hurting my feelings if other people do them. I’m not feeling all left out of the crowd, so I don’t need to downgrade their actions to make myself feel righteous in “not following the crowd”. The world would be a boring place if we all “got” the same things.
Answer by JuliWell for starters– I take issue with your list of bad points…
bad points of tattooing are:
1. spoils natural good look of a person.
(this is a personal opinion– obviously people with tattoos disagree- so you can’t use this as a general statement of all people and all tattoos)
2. scratches/cuts on the skin is infectious.
(this is also untrue– having a cut does not make it infectious. infection is caused by external sources and when kept clean, a cut or scratch can easily be healed without infection)
3. inks when absorbed in the blood stream is poisonous.
(this is untrue, tattoo artists use non toxic ink so this is not a problem. the main issue with tattoo ink is an allergic reaction, which is why many artists recommend an ink test to ensure the safety of the recipient.)
4. it can lead to skin cancers.
(there is no proof that tattoos can lead to skin cancer, this is a myth.) https://www.nytimes.com/features/membercenter/billing_maintenance.html
5. when not wanted, removing it is another problem.
(this one is true, so if you want this to be a down side, then ok. But how about this one– when you have a child, and decide at 2AM that you don’t want it anymore because it’s been screaming for 16 hours straight– it’s hard to get rid of them too.)
6. many employers deny jobs to tattooers.
(SOME– not MANY. Tattoos are becoming more intigrated with every day society, and while some employers still maintain an outdated opinion that anyone with a tattoo is “trouble” many and I’d even go so far as to say most– are not denying employment to those with body art.)
7. many anti-social people use tattoos.
(i’m not even going to take the time to debate weather or not this is true– so for the sake of argument, ok. Many anti-social people drink alcohol too, does that mean that no one else should? just because a certain group of people do something, doesn’t mean it should be banned by everyone else.)–(also– one point– you can’t “use” a tattoo)
8. people r shocked to see a badly tattooed person.
(And people are shocked to see a really badly dressed person, no one wants to be “badly” anything– I’m pretty sure no one walks into a tattoo parlor and says “Give me the worse tattoo you can!”. People get bad hair cuts all the time, does that mean we should all stop cutting our hair, in case we might get a bad trim?)
9. tattooers often invite social criticism.
(So did black people sitting at the front of the bus, social ctiricism is not a bad thing, social criticism is the first step to social change, if no one ever does anything different, and things never change, we may as well all still live in caves and grunt at eachother. The mark of an educated society is one that changes and adapts over time)
Now as far as the up sides to tattoos:
1. They are a lasting form of artwork
2. They are rooted in ancient tradition and ceremony and for many are a symbol of spirituality
3. They are a unique form of self expression
4. They can be used as a perminant honor or memorial to a loved one, or place
5. When cosmetic surgery is unavaliable or unaffordable, they can be used to cover minor deformities in the skin such as birth marks or scars.
6. They can improve self image of those who are self consious (myself included)
7. They provide a connection for people who otherwise may have nothing in common and bring together many walks of life
8. They can provide an instant conversation starter for almost any occasion.
9. Tattoos invite social criticism and social change.
