: How do you start a new regular blues dancing event?
Thinking along the lines of regular swing dancing events, only with blues dancing. I’ve thought about approaching my own local lindy organization about getting something set up, but not quite sure how to plant the idea in their heads especially since they’ve been around for so many years, there is an obvious interest in blues dancing amongst lindy hoppers at large and still they have little organized than an annual blues workshop.
What information needs to be gathered and contacts formed in order to start a regular DJ’ed dance?

The issue may be that the organizers of your scene may 1) already have enough on their plate, and 2) not be all that interested in blues. Some people like it, some people don’t, but neither is universal for all Lindy Hoppers. Probably you should take the initiative and start your own venue, but maybe work with the local organizers to cross promote it and make it clear that you’re not trying to compete with them, just bring something new and diverse to the scene.
There is a great topic on Yehoodi (the National Swing Forum) about how in Sacramento, they took a dying scene and reinvented it into a thriving one:

Granted this is about swing and not blues, but I think the same ideas apply.
Basically there’s two thoughts on this:
1) Start small and let it build slowly, or
2) Go big or go home.
Both options have their risks, but you can check out the discussion on Yehoodi for all of that jazz!
Best of Luck!
Answer by LukeOf course you must have the dancing floor or the conference center for your event. I think there’s a lot of thing to settle first before you can invite people for your blues dancing event.
