You should hook the yellow and white audio cords to the back of the TV.
Most of the surround sound processors (amplifier/receiver) got the capability to create surround sound output’ from 2-channel (left+Right) input. So if you connect your TV to a surround processors via RCA cables (red and white audio output plugs), u may enjoy surround sound.
Audio/Video Receivers like Denon, Yamaha, etc (Eg: Denon AVR series) produces surround sounds modes (like 5 channel stereo, Dolby, Dolby-Prologic, DTS, etc) from 2-channel analog signal input.

Oh you have one of those “home theater in a box” kits.
Unfortunately these aren’t very good for the reason you’ve just discovered – no expandability.
Most of these kits don’t have additional audio inputs, meaning if you have something else you wish to connect – like your SkyBox, or a game console, etc. – you’re literally SOL. You basically have no choice but to throw out this overpriced, worthless DVD player and buy a REAL theater receiver. The main difference? A receiver has lots of inputs to support a variety of different devices or configurations.
With a real receiver you could connect the Skybox’s audio cables so you could choose to use your TV speakers or the receiver’s speakers. Most receivers also do HDMI, so you would connect your Skybox to the receiver then the receiver to your TV.
If this is the case – and your home cinema system has no inputs whatsoever, don’t despair. A bare bones surround sound receiver is about $ 100. Higher prices just means more inputs.
