kitty: Renting a House During College?
I’m going to be a sophomore in college next fall and I want to rent a house near campus for 12 months. I am currently staying in an apartment, but would like to research the idea of renting. My question is if it is reasonable to look into renting a house for 12 months? Is there a big difference in price between an apartment and renting a house? Do I need a loan from the bank or pay monthly? Do I need a real estate agent?

12 months is the general length for renting. There is a 6 month minimum (usually) but, 12 months is best so no worries on that!
You can hire a leasing agent, and I do advise you on that, agents are good because they can find the best deal, and, hopefully the best place!
It really balances out…but if you find a house that is being rented out by the OWNER, NOT, a leasing company, they are more willing to negotiate.
There will be a ‘down payment’ kind of for renting, it is usually first month rent, last month rent and an initial move in deposit. Which is based off how much you pay for rent. For instance, our rent is $ 1250, we paid about $ 3,000 to move in (and we had a pet fee)
So, you can get a loan if you need it, but it is not necessary. We paid cash so don’t worry if you can get the cash that’s great.
