Organized religion has had both good AND bad effects on society. Don’t be discouraged by the bad things organized religion has done. True, on one hand some examples of the bad would be the following: During the American Civil War, the Baptists on both sides, North and South, supported and fought in the war, each thinking God was on their side. And in the South, they kept slaves, which they thought was righteous. In modern times Catholics and Protestants on Hitlers side (Germany) fought against and killed Catholics and Protestants from the other countries, and visa-versa. War between Muslims and Hindus took hundreds of thousands of lives when India was parted into India and Pakistan. The Mormon massacre, where Mormons slaughtered innocent men, woman and children in a ‘wagon trian’ over religious beliefs, is another.
But in spite of this, religion has done alot of good also. The Bible has been printed with the help of religious people who really mean well. And much charitable giving has helped many. If You really want to get to know the good in religion, start by considering following scripture…John 17:3 says ‘This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of You, the only True God, AND of the one whom You sent forth Jesus Christ.’ With a proper understanding of the Bible, You will see that a relationship with God is a good thing. Jesus True followers are known by the Love they have among themselves. They even Love their enemies. Please read Matthew chapters 5-7.
