Savage serenity: My Fiancee strongly believes that the only way to make good money is to own a business- is this true?
My Fiancee is more spontaneous. I am very careful about planning things out elaborately.
She has a narrow sense of the truth. I tend to exaggerate things.
We are classic opposites.
She thinks that we need to own our own business in order to ever get wealthy. I believe that she and I just need to have decent earning full time jobs.
Is she right, or am I right? Are neither of us right?

First, it depends on your definition of wealthy. There is some truth that you never get rich working for someone else, although there are exceptions. One can get rich if one works his/her way up the corporate food chain. Many CEOs etc. can be considered rich by most definitions.
There is also truth to the thought that the road to wealth is through self-employment (Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Steve Jobs come to mind). On the other hand, the chance of failure is much higher when one is self-employed. About 80% of new start-ups never make it to the fifth year of business.
One alternative might be to combine your personalities – working well-paying jobs while trying to start a business. This would provide you with the steady income it takes to weather storms and economic downturns while establishing a base from which to grow future riches (your successful business).
Good luck.
Answer by eternal studentIt depends on what you mean by “good money.” There are a lot of high paying jobs, particularly at senior executive level positions. However, it is true that entrepreneurship is the way to go if one aspires to become rich. Starting your own business, successfully building the business, and then selling the business or selling equity stakes in the business to other investors is one of the surest ways to become wealthy. Obviously it entails business acumen, initiative, and hard work.
As for your question about who is right, there is no right or wrong answer. Each person has a different goal in life. In your case, it depends on your goal, priorities, etc.
Answer by aims highYour fiancee sounds like my mom! She’s always telling me the same thing, but money never really mattered to me. It only bothers me that so many people judge a person by money.
No, it’s not the only way. You could work for an entity that pays well. The pluses of that are less stress and less responsibility, but the minuses are having a boss and less control over your business decisions.
