Russ: Can I pay an online subscription fee with a prepaid “credit card”?
I mean like the prepaid visa “green dot” card. Is this accepted the same as visa credit cards? I want to pay for my online subscription to an online magazine, but I dont use credit cards (theyre the reason our country goes into a massive recession every thirty or so years)
I cant “just try it” because if it doesnt work then Im stuck with a card (which im pretty sure you have to pay fees for- what dont you have to pay fees for nowadays?) that i dont need.
so does anyone know if this works? thanks!

Well, I don’t suggest it. If anything goes wrong with the transaction it’s pert near impossible to get a refund. Why don’t you use the prepaid card and set up a paypal account. Those transaction are protected and you should be able to use paypal for most online purchases.
Edit: I know of two people who were unable to receive credits(refunds) to those prepaid cards – check first.
Answer by jYou should be able to pay for anything with the card at any merchant that accepts credit cards. As long as the card has the “VISA” logo on it and a 16-digit number, to systems and merchants, the type of card is indiscernible. It’s just like they can’t tell the difference between a secured and an unsecured credit card. As long as you have enough balance on the card, it should be accepted for payment (it’s just like a debit card, in a sense). If it doesn’t work, I’d be VERY surprised. And still, if for some odd reason the card isn’t accepted at that merchant, it would be accepted most anywhere else, so you don’t lose the money, of course.
Read the small print on the card package. As long as the VISA logo is on it, you should definitely have some recourse for transactions if something goes wrong (i.e. refund).
