Why is paypal taking money from my bank account and not the paypal account?

Waspy M: Why is paypal taking money from my bank account and not the paypal account?
In my paypal account I keep a small amount of funds for the odd purchase off ebay etc. Recently though when i’ve paid for purchases the money has come direct from my bank account, completely ignoring the funds already in the paypal account which were more than enough to cover the small transaction. Now I’m left waiting endlessly for funds to clear

Why are they doing this?

When you pay, you get to choose the “funding source”. Paypal tells you what source they are using. You need to MANUALLY force-feed it to take the paypal balance first.. until the account “remembers” that is your preference…
