Teh Yahoo Virus!: My sister is struggling with multiplication. What are some good ways to teach her?
My sister is in 4th grade and she’s been trying to learn multiplication for a while now. I’ve tried teaching her with repitition, online games, etc. Are there any good strategies to help her remember the answers to tougher problems?

flash cards worked for me
Well 7X8 I always remember because its 56 like 5,6,7,8.
Idk.
Um… make boxes like if it was 5X4
XXXX
XXXX
XXXX
XXXX
XXXX
and have her count the x’s and whatnot?
Answer by musedrinkingmercuryIf she knows the basics (e.g. 5×3 is 5 groups of 3) then she can figure it out on her own.
But that becomes tedious FAST. Multiplication is something that has to be memorized to be more efficient at completing problems.
Give her some tricks:
2’s are double the number
3’s can become easy to count by
5’s as well if she can tell time
I found this site: https://www.mathsisfun.com/multiplication-tips-tricks.html
Good luck!
Answer by Karen TYou can show her the trick with a number multiplied by nine. Ex. 4×9 is 36. If you put your hands out and put down your fourthfinger, you have three in one hand and six in the other which makes 36. Just teach her with fun tricks and she will know them in no time!
