Karmageddon: How could the new age movement be all “love” yet seem to hate the free markets, America, capitalism & parents?
When a new age person full of love publicly condemns their parents and acts as a “victim” to gain sympathy and buff up their own piety in public, what does that say about their concept of “love”?
Wouldn’t it be fair to hear the other side of the story, the parents side, and see just how “loving” the enlightened one really is from the other perspective, the other side of the story?

I can’t understand the people you’re talking about unless I know who you are and from the superficial nature of the question I get the feeling you’re a conservative; if I’m right then I can’t trust any of your perceptions of other groups of people.Answer by foxwithabone
Why do you use a nick name like Karma geddon if you dont like new agers? Does that mean youre a hypocrite yourself?
I grew up in a society where one must respect one’s elders, no matter what. Andrea Yates drowning her children, and someone tossing their kids in a locked van shows me that the parents need to learn responsibility and love for their children, and not this shallow form of it.
Answer by Mustache Petewhat “movement”? I only hear about the so called “new age movement” from opponents. I doubt there is such thing. I bet you people have created yet another issue to cry over.Answer by Ba Ba Ba Ba Barbara Ann
Do you know of anyone to whom that applies? Why don’t you tell us who did this and when?
Why is it so easy for people to make sweeping generalizations about an entire group of people when you don’t have any evidence to back it up?
And what about the “free markets, America and capitalism? You didn’t expand on those and how “new age” people are against them. You just made that up…
Answer by HOUSE OF PAINOld School only sees the selfish, lusty, evil physical side of a human being. So they remain ignorant of their spiritual side. New School only sees the loving, giving, divine spiritual side. So they remain ignorant of their evil side.Answer by Old Man from Scene 24
My son is kind of a new-ager, so I guess you are wanting my side of the story here.
Well, I never had faith in building bridges and nuclear power plants by selecting the lowest bidder, or basing everything on how profitable it is, so I can’t say I am big on capitalism.
I’ve lost faith in democracy as we practice it, because it relies on an informed population, which we don’t have anymore.
Free markets? Like allowing banks to fail and taxing all businesses including churches? It’s all part of capitalism. Profit should not be the only motive.
And you should have to pass some type of test to be a parent.
Answer by VulcanusI think somebody like Li’l Nazi Glenn on FOX FAKE “News” has been feeding you a few too many right wing lies.
Believe them if it helps you cope.
Answer by DanceflyI don’t know the answer to your question, but your identification of free markets and capitalism with America is an example of the mentality that has laid this country low. “Free markets” is only a eupehmistic buzz word for the exploitation of hard-working people in the US and around the world. We knew the results of unrestrained capitalism from the Era of Big Busines in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and we are learning the same lesson again now. Millions out of work, infrastructure crumbling, environments polluted, huge inequities in income, untold suffering by the elderly, the disabled, and the poor. Those are the fruits of the free market and unrestrained capitalism.Answer by crystalohlm
I consider myself a ‘New Ager,’ but I don’t rely on manipulation….those you speak of are not ‘New Agers’….like you said, they are victims….too bad for themAnswer by Bruce
Love is clearly a very slippery word. You are right that many who style themselves as loving, including New Agers, hate free markets, America, capitalism, and their parents, as did the beatniks and hippies of an earlier era. Their love identity is just self-marketing.
Cheers,
Bruce
