How many microsoft word pages does it take to make a regular book chapter?

Ashley Rose: How many microsoft word pages does it take to make a regular chapter in a book?
I’m writing a book on microsoft word & my chapters are 1 1/2-2 pages long, single spaced with size 12 font. I fear this may not be enough for the usual 13-20 page book chapters. Any idea if it is or not? Thanks!

It’s *your* choice. Try writing a bit more for some.

Answer by James Kim
Go with word count, that matters more than page count.

My novel right now is 60,000 words with 20 chapters, but they’re shorter than most, so around 4000 words might be normal.

There is no norm when it comes to chapter length. They can be as long or as short as you want.

James Patterson’s books (especially his crime books), usually only have 2 or 3 pages max per chapter. He just has lots of chapters. Like I said, there is no norm. Don’t try and force your chapters to become longer; they will find a natural end themselves.

I find that A word Doc is about two pages in an actual book, so just double what you write and thats what you get. Its ok if your chaps are a little short, especially if its fast paced story. Also, try having some chapters long and shorter than others. Makes it more interesting! 🙂 hope I helped!

1 1/2 – 2 pages/chapter is more like an outline than a book.
Chapter size is your choice though.

I would say if you wrote a page of microsoft word A4 it would be two of a normal page in a book, so if you have 10 pages in a chapter then 5 Microsoft Word pages to one chapter.
But to be honest the length of the chapter doesn’t matter as long as you’ve gotten to the point in the story that the chapter was meant to take you to…

anyway, there’s a rough guide

Go by the word count rather than the pages. Each book page is about 250 words. So if you have 1000 words per chapter, that’s about 4 pages. 2000 words would be about 8 pages. Etc.

Answer by K8thebookbuff
Chapter length varies from author to author, book to book. James Patterson often employs 1 page chapters. You shouldn’t go by a formula, you should break chapters when it feels like a natural break in the writing.
