: Is this computer virus error message a scam to get you to buy software?
*Attention!*
Your PC is in danger!
Your system requires AV check.
Av Center will perform a quick and free scan of your PC.

Then, when I click OK, it proceeds to scan my computer and shows me the things that it “found.” I think it just wants me to buy a certain software. Is this just a scam? Is there anything I can do to get rid of it? I think it happens on random websites, not one in particular.
Is anyone else getting this message?

IT’S a scam!!!
It’s both. It’s a virus that infects you’re pc and will trick you into buying software that does not exist. It is very common in Windows XP, although I have seen it in Vista as well. I suggest getting a good antivirus software like Microsoft Security Essentials (free, but really good) or Eset Nod32 and scan for viruses immediately. It doesn’t do anything major to the system, but you dont want anything foreign in your system that doesn’t belong.Answer by Skylar
Av Center is a fake and should be removed, Get a real Antivirus program either here https://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download or here https://free.avg.com/
Both companies also have a product suite that you can buy as well.Answer by micksmixxx
Yes, it is a scam … and the bad news is, you’ve probably infected your computer now by pressing on the OK button.
Do you have any anti-malware programmes running on your computer? (Something like MalwareBytes AntiMalware or a-squared Free?) If you do, try to run them and see if they’ve been disabled. If they have, you may need to get someone else to download one, or both, of them onto their computer, and then copy the executable files onto a flash drive so that you can install them that way.
I hope you get rid of the rubbish, mate.
