samxli: How to avoid scam when selling through classifieds?
I’m selling a computer through the classifieds. How do I make sure the in-person money transaction won’t be a scam? What are some quick and sure ways to have a scam-free in-person transaction?

ebay
the best and quickiest way is only accepted cash, certainly no personal check. postal money order and cashier check is the next acceptable payment alternative. paypal is another way to accept payment if the buyer wants to pay by credit card. the common scam would be a buyer brings a check that the dollar amount more than your asking price and ask you to give him the money back. beware of that. also, don’t wire money to your account except using paypal.Answer by Sharron H
If you are selling this PC in person make sure that the payment is either Cash or Cashiers Check from a local bank. If you are shipping the PC to another location or out of state, do not ship until the payment (cashiers or regular check) has cleared your bank or use a secured site like paypal for the transaction. I have sold lots of items through e-bay and on-line and if you have any suspicions do NOT sell, wait for another customer, also if they want to send you more than the agreed price and ask that you cash the check and send them money back DON’T DO IT, this is a scam and you will get burned.
