Theo N: Is Obama now throwing away the black vote in order to win the white voters?
Obama is now saying that Rev. Wright is “divisive and destructive” and that he is “sickened and saddened” by his former pastor. While Obama himself has previously said that Wright’s opinions are reflective of the black church and the black community, but now he’s changing his mind and is “outraged” over Wright. Has Obama decided to turn on his black supporters in order to gain white support? And how will the black community respond to his change of allegiance?

yes
Obama is not going to lose any Black votes because of Rev Wright there are the black voters that are voting for him because they truly believe he is the best candidate and there are those that are voting for him because he is black. He is denouncing Rev Wright now SOLELY to gain what extra white votes he can and retain the white votes that are on the fence.Answer by me
Possibly. I asked a similar question here:Answer by Potranco Pete
I hope so. Funny it took Obama 20 years to learn the Rev. Wright is divisive and destructive.Answer by Donna M
sure sounds like it, he better make up his mind.Answer by caldude1010101
He doesn’t have to. They will vote for him anyway at this point. Bill Clinton has been cast-off by the community as the ‘first black President’ because of his racially charged remarks against Obama.Answer by whatshappenin?
black people know Obama and Wright are not the same and are two different people
EDIT: im black but i guess i dont know what i am talking about
Answer by Dr. DumbfellowWhite working class voters he cannot win – he already said they are bitter churchgoers. And black voters will now see him as a traitor too.
So who remains? White delusional liberals on university campuses and inexperienced college kids. Not exactly a winning combination, is it?
Wise move, Sen. Obama!
Answer by Debra HIf Obama is throwing away the black vote, then it must be true that all blacks are racist like Wright.. I don’t think that is true.. but if they leave Obama for that reason then they are.
I thought blacks said it was only whites who were racist and holding them back..hmmm.. seems as tho’ they are all holding themselves back.
Answer by Bushrod IsbisterObama hasn’t changed anything. His new statement was in reponse to Rev. Wright’s comments made just last weekend. Obviously, these statements were even more over the top than his sermons. Look, we all know that he was a point when he talks about things like the “Tuskegee Experiment”, but the idea that AIDS was created by the US government to kill people of color is just silly. Its not supported by science. At all. Spreading urban myths like that helps nobody.Answer by United4Peace2
??? I feel sorry for Obama he got in over his head. I don’t feel sorry for him because of how he and his surrogates have been unfairly trashing everyone else’s reputations. Obama’s judgment and crisis management skills are not good.
Obama should not have thrown Rev. Wright under the bus, the first time, and Rev Wright probably coached him to be a good speaker (because he wasn’t when he came to Chicago) and introduced him the the Black Chicago elite. Obama has no loyalty… and it’s hard to win at anything if you’re disloyal.
Answer by Joseph, IINah… He’s just trying to walk atop that splinter filled fence between the two Races- and a High “Wright” wind has come up -& is threatening to Blow Him off… 🙁Answer by William S
All of the candidates have always needed the white vote, hes not throwing anyone away for it.Answer by forestbythesea
Okay, I’m not a fan of Obama, but since when does the entire white community have the exact same opinion? Obama hasn’t turned his back on black supporters. He’s trying to distance himself from the pyscho-babbling Reverend. He tried to do it before in a nice way, now he took off his gloves and said GET BEHIND ME SATAN!!!Answer by angelbeary100
It’s only a political move; forced to reject Wright due to adverse public opinion. If he weren’t running for president, he would still be a member of his church and being mentored by him. As far as his black supporters are concerned; unless he flat-out changes his color, he’ll still get their usual racially motivated 90+ % votes.Answer by canam
I dont think obama has much choice because he now sees the rev. from hell is affecting his campaign. He is dropping in the polls and under closer scrutiny than ever. It appears the excuse he gave for wrights bitterness is unfounded since he grew up in a well to do neighborhood in phildelphia, went to the best schools, and was unaffected by racism.
