What Intel processor is the best for typical computing?

Literati: What Intel processor is the best for typical computing?
I am planning on buying a second hand laptop here at our place and the laptop processors’ that are in the bracket are Intel Pentium M’s and Celeron’s. I am having a hard time choosing since there are so many versions of Intel processors. Can you rank the processors according to performance? Thanks!

For budget PCs, i recommends you to buy the i3

Well in MOST laptops you cant change processors…there “built in” (unless your laptop comes with either a “P” socket or a PGA988) so you have to get a laptop that has the better processor. the i5 is about the best for general work.
