i started doing ballet in first grade and started point at 13, you need to do alot of ballet before starting point because not only will it hurt you wont be flexible or have enough skill to dance on point properly, and if you start on point to early your big toe is going to bend, so just stay of point for now and try to actually acquire the skill in ballet before going on point
Most ballerinas who go on to dance with a company have been dancing since they were much younger than you. However, it is never too late to start dancing recreationally.Answer by Emily S
New York City Ballet Workout is a really good Dvd that will improve your tecnique, you can buy it off Amazon.com
You will need to have strong ankles and good feet for pointe so start practising your relevés. Once again the Dvd would be a lot of help to you.
Hope this helps:)
Answer by ballet dancerif you want to dance, go for it 🙂
you should STRETCH, strengthen your ankles, etc.
when you do combinations in class, pay close attention to all the little details, like turn out in tondus, bend ankles in plies, use inner thigh muscles in developes..
for pointe, you have to really prove that you are ready.. i mean its easier to correct a “deadly habit” (we all have them, such as not plie-ing or sitting in the heals) before going on pointe.. so just work, work, work 🙂Answer by lalala
you are not to old to start!
just start slow.
work on your technique and your strength.
don’t go en pointe too quicky, otherwise you will hurt yourself.
be sure to stretch at home.
(splits, back bends, tendus, plies, etc.)
OK, listen ….little advice dont use dvd stuff to help u because they dont work. For example: nobody can tell u if ur doing it right or wrong like doing a plie. what if u get used to it but ur doing it wrong so dont use any other except to take a lesson. I think u r not Too old to do ballet. because i’m 12 too and i just started last year. to help u practice look in youtube, or go to the library, read books, watch the nutcracker or any ballet movie. U also have to practice stretching before ur lesson because ballet is about flexibility to. Watch youtube for ballet exercises or anything. Hope this helps.Answer by freedom in spring
Your not too young. But most girls your age who do ballet have been doing it for many years, so you will be behind most girls your age. For pointe, you may not get on for about 3-4 years because building up strength for pointe is something you do your whole life. work work work 🙂Answer by dklfjsklfjdsklfdsj

This is from a guys perdpective (I have been dancing for 12 yrs)…… never to late to start but try not think that you can just soar through and become the top of your class… and dont take this the wrong way you could eaisly become the best ni your class all it takes is a heart for dance…. think of it as your 2nd languge… let the movements speak through your body and let it take contrl dance is not a hobby its a way of life….. at least it is for me….. I hope this helped and its never to late to start never forget that
